A South Portland pesticide ban could be a springboard for a similar regulation in Portland, but how much that ordinance would mirror the SoPo's remains to be seen.

Portland City Councilor Jon Hinck, chair of the Standing Committee on Energy and Sustainability, offered his view during Monday's regular city council meeting: "I've observed over the last few months that the city of South Portland went through an exercise examining pesticide use with the goal of making sure that pesticide use that occurred inside the city … meets the desire of most of the citizens of this area that we avoid overuse and needless loading of Casco Bay and other side effects from overuse of pesticides."
