EP w37 ye olden times

This photograph shows Cleaves Hall on Main Hill, to the right of the old Bridgton House. Here is where Mr. Lee kept a Chinese Laundry in 1890.

Howdy neighbor!

This week’s story is a very special piece, on which I’ve been working for some time. Many months ago, while digging through local archives, I found a note which led me to the re-discovery of a very interesting historical character, whose local story immediately captivated my interest and attention. I have since done much research, and at last feel prepared to discuss him publicly. He was by all available records the very first Chinese immigrant ever to come and live in our town, who came here in the summer of 1890 to establish a Chinese laundry and called Bridgton home over 135 years ago.
