To the editor:

It was disappointing to read that the Gorham Select Board opposes HB 683, “relative to the rights of property owners abutting certain highways and railtrails.” If a property owner wants to install solar panels or have a small flock of chickens, they have to apply to the planning board and certified letters with the proposal are sent to abutting neighbors. Why should solar panels and chickens be held to a higher standard than an OHRV trail? Tax-paying citizens have a right know about any proposed project that could affect our homes and neighborhoods.
