At some point in our lives, almost everyone has an opportunity to listen to other people’s stories. Whether we are parents or grandparents, veterans or teachers, or simply people who’ve gone through stuff, we humans enjoy telling people about our lives through stories. It’s probably embedded in our DNA that we want to share our experiences, both good and bad, and of course we hope that along the way people will want to listen.
They say that truth is stranger than fiction, and to this I agree. If you live long enough, you hear stories that are at once comical or sad, or perhaps bloodcurdling and embedded with some warning or lesson to be passed along and learned. There are stories of choices made and passed over, of lost loves, of embarrassing flubs, and best of all, perhaps, tales of those surprise and lasting “wins” that punctuate our lives. When luck shines on us, as it often does, we as surely want to tell someone.
