There is no sugar coating it: New Hampshire’s public health network and health care system is under attack. Funding cuts at both the state and federal level, including proposed reductions in the Medicaid program, threaten the viability of the health care system in our state.

Since the beginning of the year, the organization that I represent, Coos County Family Health Services, has incurred a loss of $185,000 in public health funding. If the New Hampshire House of Representatives’ budget becomes law, a 3 percent decrease in Medicaid rates will result in a further loss of over $100,000. The proposed elimination of the state family planning program will result in an additional loss to the organization of more than $200,000.
