BERLIN – The Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge forest management plan calls for harvesting about 950 cords of wood annually over the next 15 years. At a recent roundtable discussion on timber harvesting some residents criticized the harvest levels as low for the almost 30,000 acre refuge.

Alan McLain, a Berlin resident and camp owner on the refuge, said the harvest levels will not generate much timber yield tax revenues for the local communities.
