ANDROSCOGGIN VALLEY – The announced retirement of N.H. Commissioner of Economic Development George Bald was met with sadness in the Berlin-Gorham area where he is credited with working hard to revitalize the local economy.

Bald was a key player in facilitating the sale of the local paper mills to Fraser Papers after the bankruptcy of American Tissue and then later making possible the sale of the Gorham mill to Patriarch Papers. He also worked to negotiate an agreement that allowed Cate Street Capital to move forward with construction of a 75-megawatt biomass in Berlin.
