Two-way center turn lanes like the one on Berlin-Gorham Road give motorists who are uncertain about the law a fair amount of confusion. While some drivers use them correctly, many do not, and others still are correct about half the time.

According to state law, the center turn lane is there for drivers in both directions to make left turns, but it is also there as a temporary lane for drivers merging onto the road from say, a shopping plaza.
