BERLIN — Some 405 dogs in Berlin don’t know they’re unregistered, but their owners should. That’s because the owners of these 405 canine companions have until July 15 to register their dogs with the city clerk’s office or they will be served by a Berlin police officer with a civil forfeiture and a $25 fine. Plus, a mandate to register their dog.

City Clerk Shelli Fortin asked city councilors during their June 16 work session if they would sanction the writing and mailing of a letter to the pet owners to give them time to comply. The council voted yes.
