Students attend Northern New England Junior Science and Humanities Symposia

A group of Gorham High School students attended the Northern New England Junior Science and Humanities Symposia held at UNH on March 31. Autumn Brown (left) and Chelsea Pike (right) presented their research "Variance of Mercury Levels Based on Location" which was part of a larger project conducted by chemistry students at Gorham High School. For the last four years students have worked with the Dartmouth Superfund Research Program’s Community Engagement Core, with funding provided by the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the N.H. Charitable Foundation, learning about watershed science by looking at mercury levels in the region and along the Androscoggin River. Last fall Gorham students collect dragonfly larva samples from the Androscoggin River that were processed at Dartmouth College in order to support research questions they developed.
