CONCORD — NASCAR legend Mark Martin sped away from Governor Kelly Ayotte in a simulated race in support of New Hampshire public education on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Ahead of New England’s NASCAR Cup Series event, the Dollar Tree 301, Martin and Governor Ayotte were randomly assigned to represent Groveton High School and Somersworth High School, respectively, in a virtual race, with the winning driver’s school receiving $5,000. While Martin won the race for Groveton High School, the New Hampshire Lottery surprised Somersworth High School by awarding them $5,000 as well.
“What a great day at the track supporting public education! It’s not every day you get to watch our governor go head-to-head behind the virtual wheel against a NASCAR legend,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director, New Hampshire Lottery. “Better yet, we got to give away $5,000 to two deserving New Hampshire public schools – Groveton and Somersworth high schools. There’s no better way to celebrate our commitment to public education than by putting on events like these and giving money back to the students, teachers and schools of our great state."
