My sister and I have recently been discussing family heirlooms. More specifically, the fact that we don’t really have any. I have my parents’ engagement ring, which was considered an antique 30 years ago when my dad gave it to my mom.

Now the band is worn so thin, I’m afraid to ever wear it. Other than that, and an old tambourine my mom’s biological father gave to her when they finally met in her 20s, we don’t have any family treasures being passed down to us or to pass on to our own kids. I think because my sister recently had a baby, this has been on her mind a bit more than in the past.
