On Tuesday, I stopped by the Conway Public Library briefly. At the front desk, Library Director David Smolen came over to tell me about his latest hiking adventure. On Sunday, he had done a 7.5-mile loop hike in the Mahoosuc Range, from Success Pond Road to the summits of Goose Eye Mountain (3,870 feet), Carlo Mountain (3,565 feet) and back to the valley.

His enthusiastic description stuck in my mind. With a stretch of showery weather coming in a couple days, I decided early Wednesday morning to take advantage of the blue sky and go do the same hike.
