In 1975 I was attending the “Tech,” now White Mountains Community College, in Berlin, and had the opportunity to escort then-candidate Jimmy Carter through the school to meet with students and answer questions they may have.

From observing his various discussions with students, of which a number were veterans of the Vietnam War, attending school on the GI Bill. Others campaigned in Berlin during this period, and I also took the opportunity to meet them.
