I am writing this as we complete week two of the longest, bleakest stretch of Mount Washington Valley weather I have experienced in my 33 years here. The happiness quotient in this column matches the weather.

Patching potholes in this weather cannot be easy, but you really have to hand to New Hampshire’s Department of Transportation picking the Friday of Memorial Day weekend to get this done. It’s hard to make me late for work because I don’t have any specific hours, but DOT was able to pull it off. DOT remains the enemy of the people and of north country people in particular.
