BERLIN — North Country Sanctuary Community is one of eight groups across the state formed to advocate for immigrants and oppose what they call “police-state” tactics employed by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A grassroots effort, the Sanctuary Communities have no leader or organization. Instead, they urge citizens to monitor and document ICE raids, promote due process for detainees, provide witness information to state and national media, and support families threatened by ICE.
