BERLIN — The city will see approximately $1.1 million in new education aid plus $238,000 in revenue sharing in fiscal 2020 under the new state budget according to Mayor Paul Grenier.

“I literally feel like someone took an 80-pound weight off my back,” Grenier said, noting the council had built its budget based on assurances Berlin would receive an additional $1.2 million in state funding. If the budget deal had not been approved Wednesday afternoon, Grenier said the city faced significant layoffs and cuts. He said the remaining $130,000 will provide some help with needed public works equipment.
