BERLIN — City councilors voted 7-0 to send a letter to Gov. Kelly Ayotte and Executive Council to request a special election to fill the seat of former state representative Brian Valerino.
Valerino voluntarily stepped down in June to avoid any conflict of interest between his new role as warden of the state prison in Berlin, officially called the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility, and any decisions made by state lawmakers.
