BERLIN — The city will negotiate to lease three John Deere snow loaders to replace three that are no longer safe for public works employees to use.

Public Works Director Ben Hall updated the city council Monday night on options to lease or lease-purchase the loaders. After considering the various options, the council favored going with a five-year lease for models with a slightly larger engine than the current loaders. Hall said employees said the current model is undersized on some of the steeper hills in the city. The city will have an option to purchase the loader at the end of the lease.
