BERLIN — For the students in Corinne Cascadden’s middle school class one day in 1976, a lesson in current events came alive. At the time, she was a teacher at Berlin’s Catholic West School, formerly St. Michael’s, where she taught social ctudies and French.

“My students were learning the campaign and election process. With a campaign office in town for Jimmy Carter, we invited to host him in our classroom (top floor room on Blanchard Street).
