The closing of the oldest operating pulp mill in the world ends a tradition of papermaking that has spanned more than a century in Berlin.

At one time, an estimated 8,000 people were employed either directly by the local mills or in the woods. And the biggest and best known of the paper companies was the Brown Paper Company.
