CONWAY — M&D at Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse will be holding auditions for "The Odd Couple," by Neil Simon, as directed by Dennis O’Neil, on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in The Ledges Room at Eastern Slope Inn Resort in North Conway.
Felix Ungar, a neurotic, neat freak news writer, is thrown out by his wife, and moves in with his friend Oscar Madison, a slovenly sportswriter.
Despite Oscar’s problems — careless spending, excessive gambling, a poorly kept house filled with spoiled food — he seems to enjoy life. Felix, however, seems utterly incapable of enjoying anything and only finds purpose in pointing out his own and other people’s mistakes and foibles. Even when he tries to do so in a gentle and constructive way, his corrections and suggestions prove extremely annoying to those around him — especially his new roommate.
There are parts for six males and two females. Actors should be prepared to do a cold reading from the script.
Oscar Madison: A disorderly mess of a man, and a recently divorced sportswriter.
Felix Ungar: A finicky, fussy hypochondriac with his own marriage struggles who moves in with Oscar.
Gwendolyn and Cecily Pigeon: A pair of giggly English sisters who are Oscar and Felix's giggly upstairs neighbors. Gwendolyn is a widow and Cecily is a divorcée.
Speed: One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Gruff and sarcastic, often picking on Vinnie and Murray.
Murray: A NYPD policeman, one of Oscar and Felix's poker buddies.
Roy: One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Oscar's accountant. Roy has a dry wit but is less acerbic than Speed.
Vinnie: One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Vinnie is mild-mannered and henpecked, making him an easy target for Speed's verbal barbs.
Performances are Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 13 through March 1, at 7:30 p.m.
