CONWAY — Music as Meditation brings a spirit of quiet on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church on the corner of Pine and Main Streets in North Conway.

The theme can be characterized by the vocalization “Shhhh.” The evening’s mood will certainly be one of hush.

Ellen Schwindt will play a Schubert impromptu along with her finally published “Fibonacci Sonata” on the Steinway piano at the church. Ann Strachan will join Schwindt to perform some Chopin.

“For several years, I’ve written a small violin piece that I use to make Christmas cards,” Schwindt said. “I’ll play a selection of these from across the years, along with more violin music, a lot of which could be used to place us all in that spirit of peaceful waiting that many traditions associate with this time of year.”

Music as Meditation is a monthly gathering of listeners and artists interested in the spiritual — though not necessarily religious — source of art and music. Beyond the coming program of solo piano and violin music, the current season offers chamber music on the first Sunday in January, an organ recital by Christ Church’s own Nancy Farris on the first Sunday in February and visual art combined with music.

The gatherings take place on the first Sunday of each month Admission is free. Donations toward the upkeep of the Steinway piano are gratefully accepted.

Call or email Schwindt for more information at or (603) 447-2898.
