FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Academy field hockey team out-skilled and out-hustled a quality Gray team with a 4-0 at home on Homecoming Saturday to up their record to (5-3-1).
The Raiders used a swarming style to keep the ball on Gray’s side of the field through most of the game. When the Patriots managed to get the ball across the midfield stripe the Raider defense quickly reversed it, and sent it back the other way.
Fryeburg buzzed the Gray-New Gloucester net the entire contest as the Patriots’ goalie Makenzie Baston had 19 saves, while allowing four Raider goals.
All four goals came in the first half, courtesy of Kirsten Wentworth, Maggie Powers, Maddie Forman and Camden Jones. Bridget O’Neil had two assists, while Ryan Duffy and Powers had one apiece.
The Raiders were so dominant that one point in the second half the Gray coach yelled out to her team, “Come on girls you can do this.” and one of the Gray players yelled back, “No coach we can’t. “
Fryebug’s pressure had broken the will of its opponent.
The win was a nice treat for the near capacity Homecoming crowd have the opportunity to cheer on their hometown Raiders.
