CONWAY — The opportunity to race on home soil and in front of classmates and family was everything the Kennett High mountain biking team hoped it would be last Wednesday. The Eagles turned in a number of outstanding results in the Northern New England Mountain Bike League race.

Stateline neighbors Fryeburg Academy also participated in the afternoon of racing on the Kennett campus.

The races started and finished adjacent to Gary Millen Stadium, and spectators also had great vantage spots from Eagles Way.

“A” riders will do three laps of a 2-plus mile course, “B” riders do two and “C” riders do one; spectators are welcome. There were roughly 125 riders.

In the A race for boys, Nate Colavolpe of SMMBS took top honors, besting 14 other riders in a time of 39:03, beating Gould Academy’s Zach Hamadeh by a minute.

Kennett had two boys in the A race — Kylan Morneau and Kevin Faye — finished 13th and 14th, respectively, in 51:06 and 52:21.

There was just one A race girl, Stephanie Soper of St. Johns Prep, who covered the three laps in 55:34.

In the B race for girls, Nola Meek of SMMBS topped two other riders to finish in 41:58, winning by 2 minutes.

For the boys in the B race, which featured 41 racers, Ian Ripperger of Portsmouth High took the top spot in 31 minutes, besting Gould Academy’s Eli Shifrin by 57 seconds.

Fryeburg was led by Luke Dupuis, who finished eighth overall in 33:31. He was followed by teammates Finn Sampson, 31st, 42:05; Padric McGrath, 35th, 44:52; and Derek Batchelor, 36th, 44:52.

Kennett’s top B finisher was Reed Karnopp, who was 10th in 34:07.

The were 45 C racers for the boys with Portsmouth’s Baden Paterson winning by just over a minute over teammate Jake Scally in 17:58.
