CONWAY — Ski and snowboard areas throughout the U.S. offer special learning programs for beginners during “January - Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.” Lessons are available from professional instructors all winter long. Some of the programs take place all winter.

According to Ski NH, most New Hampshire ski areas are offering a $29 Alpine and $19 xc packages (rentals, lesson, limited lift ticket or trail pass). The offer extends throughout January. Those interested are directed to contact individual venues (either by phone or on the web) to find out what lesson times are available and sign up directly. Local members of Ski NH include Black (383-4490; Black is offering this program all season long but with limited availability); Bretton Woods (278-3320),Cannon (823-8800), Cranmore (356-5543) and King Pine (367-8896), all of which offer learn-to-ski programs all season long. Attitash and Wildcat are not members of Ski NH, but offer their own learn-to-ski programs al season long. They offered a free Learn2 weekend Dec. 13 and 14, and are offering a $29 Learn2 weekend Dec. 20 and 21. They may be contacted at www.attitash.com and www.skiwildcat.com).

NORDIC WINTER TRAILS DAY  JAN. 10]]

A national Winter Trails Day is set for Jan. 10, 2015, with more than 100 events around the country.

According to the website, www.wintertrails.org/wintertrails.aspx, Winter Trails is a free one-day event where people new to snow sports can try snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing. Simple events and demos are happening at many locations around the country and will help beginners discover the great fitness and social benefits of these easy to learn winter sports.
