CONWAY — The day dawned clear and cold for Week 8 of Cranmore Mountain Meisters in North Conway Wednesday and Dave Fall set a smooth, rhythmic course.

If you were an early bird, you got your run in before the winds rushed in after 9:30 a.m. As the winds howled all day, the Gibson Cup racers were treated to a Super G at the top of Hurricaine where the winds really hit hard. Thanks to Kevin Hamlin and Bobbie Haynes for manning the Herbie Schneider start.

On the Meisters hill, more than 350 racers took their run with 99 using Pay2Play benefiting Starting Point: Services for Victims of Domestic & Sexual Violence. Thank you to all who participated!

The yellow course again held firm all day and maintained its status as the faster of the two courses until all of the sudden it wasn’t. Blue became the course of choice after 5 p.m.,and many racers had great runs chasing the top time.

For the women, Kayla Kowal got another first place with Hilary McCloy in second and Maggie Flynn taking third. For the men, Tim Simoneau added another first place to his plate with a smoking run and Richie Scanlon was a close second. Congrats goes to Colin Wroblewski for grabbing third. Nice rip!

For women snowboarders, Danielle Jones took first place with Maegan O’Neil in second and Heidi DeWitt placing third. For the men, Jeff Frechette grabbed first place over Trevor Kupetz with Alan Harris in third. The two top women telemarkers were Martha Leich and Suzie Boone with Paul Robert, Bob Tafuto and Matt Howland in that order were fastest for the men.

It turned out to be a wild and windy day. Cheers to all who came out and enjoyed the skiing and racing.
