CONWAY — Cranmore Mountain Meisters started off its 49th season in North Conway in true Meisters fashion Wednesday, with a light coating of fresh snow.
We kicked off this year going back to the two-run option, and everyone seemed very pleased by it. The third run was the Pay2Play option from noon until close, which worked out for several racers, and raised $100 for the Josh Preece Fund.
Our practice course should be open by next week. The kick-off party was filled with music from Rek-lis, beer specials from our presenting sponsor Tuckerman Brewing Company and appetizers from Zip's.
Mother Nature hasn’t been as good to us so far as last year, but our great snowmakers and groomers have done a great job getting us going. We had an amazing surface for racing that held up all day thanks to the great crew we have this year.
The top three for the men on the alpine side were Richard Scanlon, Julien Deniaud and Stefan Karnopp. For the women, Taryn Palmer took first (and second overall), Maggie Flynn was second and Kayla Kowal was third. Paul Robert and Martha Leich as in years past continue to dominate the Tele-Field. For the snowboarders, Alan Harris won for the men while Maegan O’Neil took the top spot for women.
There will be a Sunday clinic this weekend and another on Tuesday morning for any Meisters who want to get in a few runs after this weekend’s forecasted weather. Remember that it is never too late to sign up for Meisters; plus, we drop your two worst scores, so just because you missed Week 1 doesn’t mean that it is too late — for more information, go to email@example.com or call Cranmore at (603) 356-5543.
