10-13-18 Pine Martens

In 2017, pine martens were taken off the Threatened and Endangered Species List, but, due to environmental pressures, still remain a species of special concern, because of fragmentation of the forest by humans. (COURTESY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE FISH AND GAME DEPARTMENT)

I have written about varied subjects in my hiking column over the years. Because of the diversification of outdoor pursuits under different writers, it has been agreed that I mention at least one hike with directions, even if the subject of my column veers off trail. That has been a great idea and allowed me to continue to vary my subject matter and remain a hiking column. It has sparked some creativity.

So this week, I have three hikes to subject. Why? Because they are three places I have seen a pine marten.
