It felt great to get back on the trail Thursday after a cold. I drove 8.8 miles north from Tamworth on Route 16 (5.6 miles south from Conway) to the entrance of White Ledge Campground. I wanted to do the old familiar 4.4-mile White Ledge Loop.

It was the day before campgrounds opened in the national forest, and I had to park before the gate. Walking through the campground to the trail, I noticed the caretaker doing some raking and getting ready for the Friday morning opening.
