Conway town officials are considering moving the 2026 and 2027 town elections from the town garage in Center Conway to the vacant John Fuller Elementary School in North Conway. It’s heated, has plenty of space for balloting and parking, and is simply a nicer facility than the town garage in Center Conway. Unlike at the town garage, setup could be done well in advance, not just the night before voting, which would take pressure off election officials. Selectman Steve Porter, the only selectman apparently against the idea, is concerned people will be disgruntled if they have to go to “the other end of town.” There were 22 responses via email, voicemail and Facebook to this week’s Tele-Talk question.  Is moving Conway voting from the town garage to John Fuller a good idea?

Pine Street is too narrow to accommodate the anticipated additional traffic volume. Furthermore, parking is inadequate and a major concern. This difficulty alone will cause mass confusion and backups onto Route 16. There is ample parking and unobstructed traffic circulation available at the high school, and it's centrally located. Zoom classes could be conducted accordingly for that one day. It is important to move traffic efficiently. Backups would discourage voters and adversely affect participation. — Mary Ann, North Conway.
