To the editor:

This letter is for Melissa Wood of Conway for her clarifying letter on Aug. 15 titled “Removing statues doesn’t negate historical U.S. events.”

Rather than be one of those clever contributors that use the “K” word, I will just say congratulations on using history as a learning tool. How else would we determine where we have been and how far we have come?

Socialism and communism are breathing down our necks as we speak. It sounds to me that Walter Davis does not understand that democracy is what they are out to destroy.

“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their history,” — George Orwell. His real name was Eric Blair, an English novelist and outspoken supporter of democratic socialism. A very interesting fellow.
