Joe Berry buys fifth row of seats for school auditorium

Anyone curious about what sits atop Eagles' Way, the site of the new Kennett High School and career and technical center, can join a Dec. 1 tour of the site. The Conway Building Steering Committee has scheduled a 2:30 p.m. tour, weather permitting.Rebecca Moore, chair of the committee, announced at a Tuesday, Nov. 15, meeting that those interested in seeing the school grounds are asked to travel up the milelong school road and park at the end of the pavement."I know people want to know what's going on up there," Moore said. "This is an opportunity for people to get a visual update."Moore also said the community relations committee learned last week that Sieman's has agreed to donate a web camera to show the progress of construction on the school site. The camera, according to Moore, gives hourly photographs of the project on the school Web site, www.educatemwv.com.Construction is well under way in hopes the school will be completed by the fall of 2007."It's amazing on a day-to-day basis, the progress that's being made out here," said Jim Hill, director of administrative services for the school district. "I know people are curious about what's happening, and I can tell them we're moving ahead well."In other school news, Sheryl Kovalik, of the Conway School Board, who serves as chairman of the alternative funding committee, announced Thursday that sales continue in the "Seat the Auditorium" campaign. The funding committee hopes to fund-raise 500 seats for the auditorium. The group has sold over 100 to date."In a recent letter to the Alternative Funding Committee," Kovalik said Thursday, "Joe Berry of River Run Company/Attitash Mountain Village, commits to purchase the fifth row of seats in the Auditorium, at a value of $2,600. Commemorating a long list of friends and family, Mr. Berry states: 'We are happy to participate in this excellent fund-raising opportunity. ... you (all) do so much for the community ... this will benefit everyone.' This is another wonderful example of the outstanding charitable nature of our valley businesses and citizens. It is an honor to be part of this community."Seats are still available for purchase. Forms can be downloaded from the project Web site at: www.educatemwv.com or they can be picked up at any of our local grocery stores. Seats are $200 each, and a brass plaque will be engraved with the donor's name or special message (not to exceed 20 characters). For more information, contact Sheryl Kovalik at 356-9013."The holidays are coming, what a great way to remember a loved one or commemorate a special occasion or event," Kovalik said.
