CONWAY — The final days to cast ballots in the 2019 edition of the Best of Mount Washington Valley Readers Choice contest are approaching. The ballot closes Sunday, July 21.

The contest, sponsored by The Conway Daily Sun, features 130 subcategories within eight major categories and range from best account to best waitstaff. So far, more than 9,000 people have cast about 230,000 ballots.

Best of contests are held across the country, and according to Sun Publisher Mark Guerringue, the participation level in the valley is very high compared to most others.

For example, said Guerringue, the best of contest in Salt Lake City, which is considered to be very successful, attracts about 15,000 voters.

“We’ll finish with about 10,000 voters,” said Guerringue. “For the valley to have 10,000 and Salt Lake City only 5,000 more, given the size of the city, is remarkable. It shows how much we support and value our local businesses, people and organizations.”

After the ballot closes Sunday, the votes will be counted and announced at the Best of Awards Party, this year to be held Tuesday, July 30, at Tuckerman Brewing Co. in Conway Village.

Popular local band The Riley Parkhust Project will play, and food will be provided by the Dueling Chefs food truck from Ossipee.

“The winners and runner-ups will be unveiled at the party,” said Guerringue, “but it is free, and we encourage everyone to come by and grab a beer, listen to music, get something to eat and meet up with friends.”

There are eight major categories on the ballot: Food & Drink, Professional Services, Culture & Community, Recreation, Health & Beauty, Best Restaurants, Businesses & Retailers and Adult Beverages & Bars.

Voters must register once on the website, and are identified by their email addresses.

They can vote once a day, so encouraging friends, family and customers to vote more than once is an important strategy of getting the vote out.

All votes count toward the final tally, beginning at the nomination phase through the final round.
