It was a good day for all local high school sports teams that competed on Tuesday as they all won their games. The Berlin High School boys’ soccer team squeaked by visiting Mascoma Valley, 2-1, to up their record to 4-3.
The Berlin girls’ soccer team won their first game of the season with a nice 2-1 victory at Laconia, while both Gorham soccer teams won their games at Pittsburg-Canaan, the girls by a 3-1 score (record 2-3-1) and the boys with a 3-2 win (2-4-1).
Meanwhile the Berlin and Gorham cross-country teams had two meets last week with the Berlin boys finishing first at the Newfound Invitational and garnering a second place finish to Kennett at the White Mountain Regional Homecoming Meet.
At Whitefield, Berlin’s Joe Young had a strong second place finish (18:25), Gorham’s Noah Fortin was fourth (19:05) after a strong fourth place finish in Bristol, and Brody Day had his best race of the year with a 10th place finish (19:44).
Other Berlin runners were as follows: Jace Arsenault (11th in 20:01), Brayden Landry (14th in 20:39), Zach Griffin (16th in 20:58), Elijah Gilcrist (17th in 21:08) and Dave Young (20th in 21:56).
At Whitefield, the local girls runners were led by Gorham’s Zoe Grondin (9th in 24:58 — she also had a solid finish at Newfound), Berlin’s Grace Clorite (16th in 25:37), Cora Treiss (17th in 26:04), and Alyssa Delafontaine (21st in 27:41. Gorham’s Anna Roberge, fighting injuries but working through them, finished in 26th place with a time of 28:24.
Berlin’s field hockey team was hosting Newfound Wednesday, and both Gorham soccer teams are in Bethlehem tonight to face Profile.
All local teams will be in action this Saturday as part of the Berlin High School Homecoming festivities, which will begin with the annual Homecoming Parade and bonfire Friday night at 7 p.m. at Heritage Park.
Also on Friday, at 12:50 p.m., students will hold a Homecoming Pep Rally in the Berlin High School gym.
On Saturday, the cross-ountry meet will be held at the Wheeler Track at 10 a.m., and on Gaydo Field, Berlin’s field hockey team will be hosting White Mountain Regional High School at 11 a.m., the girls soccer will be at 1 p.m., pitting Berlin against Gorham, and things will wind up with the Berlin High boys soccer team hosting Gorham at 3 p.m. At halftime for the girls soccer game, at 1:40 p.m., a flag Dedication, Bobby Haggart, during halftime at the girls’ soccer game.
Saturday at 7:30 p.m. is the Homecoming Dance in the Berlin High School gym.
