GROVETON — With opening weekend at Speedway 51 set for Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, track owner Joey Laquerre is planning a two-day spectacular opening with activities including a car show, parade, practice runs and dancing on Saturday, followed by a day of racing action on Sunday.
“This is the biggest opening weekend that we have ever been a part of,” Laquerre said. “We want to start the season off with a carnival atmosphere and with the fun weekend we have planned, we are kicking off our 2019 racing season with a bang!”
The MOMS North Country Powersports Car Show will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., May 18, at the brand new site of MOMS, on Main Street (Route 3) in Groveton, just past Groveton High School.
It will be open to all Speedway 51 racecars, Go-Karts and NELCAR Legends.
At 1 p.m. all the racers will parade their cars up Route 3 and onto Brown Road, ending up on Craggy Road at Speedway 51.
From there cars will go through safety inspections and then rotating practice sessions from 2-5 p.m.
Immediately following practice the Central Asphalt Paving Beer Garden will open up to the public and everyone will be able to dance the night away to the hottest band in the area at the Raized on Radio Beer Garden Party until 11 p.m. Speedway 51 concessions will be open.
Sunday’s race will be the 2019 edition of the NAPA Spectacular sponsored by local NAPA stores including Berlin, Colebrook, Littleton, Whitefield and Plymouth.
The day will be highlighted by the 150 green flag laps main event for the PASS Super Late Models, plus PASS Mods, NELCAR Legends, Tiger Sportsman, Street Stocks and Daredevils. Post time will be 1 p.m.
“We are so excited that we start off with the fan favorite PASS Super Late Models, and the return of the PASS Mods. The NELCAR Legends will be out in force as well, and we are expecting a solid field of cars in all divisions,” Laquerre said. “We also will be opening up our season with our own Tiger Sportsman, the newly revamped Street Stocks and the Daredevil Youth Racers.”
As always, there will be plenty of camping available all weekend long.
“I think this will be an incredible opening weekend event. It definitely is a must see weekend!” Laquerre said.
