BERLIN — Mr. Pizza took the North Country Hockey League Cup Monday night with a 4-2 win over the Town & Country, their second straight win in a best-of-three series.

After a scoreless first period, the champs took a 2-0 lead with those two goals coming in the second period, but T&C did not fold, but instead scored one of their own to make it close 2-1 after one period.

Third period action had Mr. Pizza scoring to take another two-goal lead, only to have the Inn Keepers score to narrow it down to 3-2.

With time running out, the T&C pulled their goalie to get the extra skater, which backfired, as Mr. Pizza scored an empty-netter to win the game, the series and the 2020 championship.

The final score: Mr. Pizza, 4 T&C, 2.

Period 1 was scoreless.

A big “Thank You” goes out to Mark Bisson, Secretary of the league, for promptly and consistently sending me scoring sheets and other statistics throughout the season. As a reminder, I will cover just about any sport in the area, as long as someone involved with the sport, furnishes me with information. The North Country Hockey League officials did that.

We are looking forward to next season and you can already check things out by going to Instagram “northcountryhockey to twitter@northcountryho1.”

And I want to thank Matt and Mark for keeping me in the loop with their successful season; it was much appreciated.
