To the editor and local veterans:

Given the political season, it seems appropriate that candidates for president get a chance to hear local issues of importance to those living in Coos County and to let us know how they will respond to those issues. One such issue is the hurdles that face our veterans of past and current conflicts when they return to civilian life or serve part time with National Guard or Reserve responsibilities.

From health care to housing to jobs to financial stress, vets and their families face many hardships when they return to civilian life — and they are exacerbated here in Coos County given the distances we must travel to receive needed services and to find jobs. That is why I and other veterans will be participating in a Veterans’ Roundtable discussion sponsored by Pete Buttigieg's campaign staff this Sunday in Berlin and this Monday in Lancaster.

Word has it that pizza and soft drinks will also be served.

If you are a veteran, a family member of a veteran or someone concerned about veterans' policies and issues in Coos County, you are most welcome to attend one of the Veterans Policy Roundtable discussions being held as follows:

Sunday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m., Berlin Pete for America Office, 19 Pleasant Street, Berlin Market Place Plaza, Berlin, or Monday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in Lancaster, location to be determined (Call Victoria at 603-969-8413 for location details).

Looking forward to seeing you then.

Bob Baker
