BERLIN — Approximately 9,000 Eversource customers in the Androscoggin Valley experienced a brief power outage Tuesday afternoon.

Eversource spokeswoman Kaitlyn Woods using smart switches the utility has installed on its electric system to reduce the duration of power outages, Eversource was able to remotely isolate Tuesday’s outage on its transmission system and reroute power to its customers. As a result, power was restored to all customers in less than five minutes. The outage occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Most of the customers impacted were in Berlin but some customers in Gorham, Errol, Milan, Wentworth, Dummer, Stark and Cambridge also briefly lost power.

Woods said the outage was caused by equipment failure and the equipment was immediately replaced. She said the cause of the failure is still under investigation but it appears the heat may have been a factor.
