Congratulations to our local athletes for being named to the best of the best by USA Track and Field New England.  Leslie O’Dell was nominated as female athlete of the year, and Chris Dunn and Paul Kirsch were nominated as race directors of the year.  Once again the valley shows what a great collection of talented and giving people we have living here.

The CA Snow School PTA of Fryeburg will host a 5K Color Run on Saturday, June 10.  The Color Run, or “The Happiest 5K on the Planet”, was founded in 2011 by Travis Snyder of Utah to encourage running by encouraging professional and novices to run together to promote being healthy and happy.

The first color run drew 6,00 participants and they are now are being held around the world with 2 million annual participants.  Runners begin dressed in clean white T-shirts, and pass through 5 color stations, one every kilometer. Each color station is associated with a different color, with volunteers blasting the runners with dyed cornstarch out of bottles.

The Color Run currently holds the title of the largest running event in the world and is an untimed event that has no winners or prizes,  The post-run festivities will include music, food, games and color. I’ve never done a color run, but people who have thought it was great fun but did recommend ski goggles!  I think it would be fun to blast the runners with the colors!  Check out “5K Color Run” on Facebook for more details which will be coming soon.

The deadlines for the 2017 Mount Washington Road Race are coming right up. If you qualified for a bypass entry, you should have received an email which needs to be returned by Friday, Feb. 10.  If you’re reading this article and you didn’t respond to your bypass email, sorry, you’re too late

For those of us who did not qualify based on last year’s performance or wish to head up the mountain for the first time, we can register beginning Wednesday, Feb.15.  This random selection ends on Wednesday, March 1.  You will hear by Friday, March 3, if you made the cut and had better start training.

If you get a rejection email, you have one more chance to enter the race.

First, make sure you are a White Mountain Miler member.  Second, come to our annual meeting on Tuesday, March 7, at 6:30 p.p. at Tuckerman Brewery.  There will be pizza, White Mountain Milers clothing for sale, beer specials, Miler Bumpah Stickers, social time with fellow athletes, raffles, 50-50 raffle and more!

More information for Mount Washington is available at mountwashingtonautoroad.com.   More information about the White Mountain Milers may be found at whitemountainmilers.com.
