Congratulations to our local athletes for being named to the best of the best by USA Track and Field New England. Leslie O’Dell was nominated as female athlete of the year, and Chris Dunn and Paul Kirsch were nominated as race directors of the year. Once again the valley shows what a great collection of talented and giving people we have living here.
The CA Snow School PTA of Fryeburg will host a 5K Color Run on Saturday, June 10. The Color Run, or “The Happiest 5K on the Planet”, was founded in 2011 by Travis Snyder of Utah to encourage running by encouraging professional and novices to run together to promote being healthy and happy.
The first color run drew 6,00 participants and they are now are being held around the world with 2 million annual participants. Runners begin dressed in clean white T-shirts, and pass through 5 color stations, one every kilometer. Each color station is associated with a different color, with volunteers blasting the runners with dyed cornstarch out of bottles.
The Color Run currently holds the title of the largest running event in the world and is an untimed event that has no winners or prizes, The post-run festivities will include music, food, games and color. I’ve never done a color run, but people who have thought it was great fun but did recommend ski goggles! I think it would be fun to blast the runners with the colors! Check out “5K Color Run” on Facebook for more details which will be coming soon.
