Donna Cormier: On the Run: White Mountain Milers ready to get festive

Last week I posted the winners of the White Mountain Milers Turkey Raffle Relay incorrectly. The correct team was Ashley Benes, Laura Holtby and Frank Holmes. Sorry for the error. Ashley's picture did accompany the article and Jenny didn't win a turkey this year. Sorry Jenny and Ashley.

Next up on the Miler agenda is the annual Christmas party. Sunday, Dec. 11, is the date, and I'm still looking for the perfect Yankee swap gift. The run or walk, disorganized at any distance you want or don't, starts at noon. Please bring a side dish or a dessert to go with the turkey dinner. At the Thanksgiving race, the dessert table equaled the dinner table in size and selection. Let's keep that tradition going. There is a $15 limit for your swap gift. More information and directions may be found at

Black Friday. Cyber Monday. I'm not a shopper but shopping from home on my computer is my favorite way to shop. For the runners on your list, or for yourself, Runner's World suggestions are for clothing like winter jackets, winter tights, hats, mittens and socks, electronics like a GPS Watch, a hoodie with built in music, Fitbit, custom shoe tags, workout videos, sunglasses and more socks. How about a gift of a race entry, in Hawaii? Europe? North Conway? The White Mountain Miler Half Marathon is set for Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017

I didn't see the White Mountain Miler clothing on the Runner's World list, but I'm sure that was an oversight. Clothing czar Frank Holmes can help you out with that hard to buy for athlete on your list. You can see Frank at the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club, the White Mountain Miler Christmas Party, or email Frank at This email address is being protected from spambots. Again, congratulations to all participants in the Purity Spring Thanksgiving Day 5K Race. From the photos I've seen, there wasn't any snow this year but there was a turkey in the running. I think that the turkey chased Albany's Leslie O'Dell to her first place female finish in 21:58.

First place male went to Taylor Days-Merrill of Fairhaven, Mass., in 18:57.

Race Director Catalina Kirsch reports; "The race raised about $2,700, which will be shared between Kennett Middle School 8th Grade Class Trip to Philadelphia and also Kennett High School Project Graduation, both in spring, 2017. There were 184 finishers from across 14 US states and Ireland, too. I think that makes us an international event!"

Race results are available at and photos are available at Thank you to Joe Viger for photos.

Mark your calendar now for Nov. 23, 2017 to join in next year's turkey trot.
