Murphy to play in Twin-State All-Star Hockey Classic July 14

CONWAY — Kevin Murphy (Kennett High School) has been selected to play in this year's Twin-State All-Star Hockey Classic to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.

The Classic will take place on Saturday, July 14, at UVM's Gutterson Field House, with the women's game beginning at 4 p.m. and the men's following at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students (ages 7-17), free for children age 6 and under, and will be available at the door.

Murphy, who will play for the Laconia Leafs this coming year, leaves Kennett as its all-time leading scorer. He captained the Eagles to the state championship in March.

Murphy was named the Division III Hockey Player of the Year in March. He’s the second player in Kennett High history to win the award.

Goalie Ricky Gaudreau, now in the U.S. Marines and scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan later this month, earned the award in 2010.

Murphy, who was named the Division III Player of the Year on March 5, ended his Kennett High career with three state championships and leaves as the team’s all-time point scorer with 170.

“My bucket list is definitely complete,” he said, smiling, in an interview in March.

Murphy led Division III in scoring with 55 points this season.

“We all know what Kevin means to this team,” Michael Lane, Eagles’ head coach, said, “but he’s also a great kid, he does everything right and was a natural leader for us.”

This year marks the 20th annual event for men and 15th for women, showcasing all-star high school seniors from Vermont, versus rival New Hampshire players. All proceeds from the event go to fulfill special wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Vermont® has granted over 500 wishes since its inception and the New Hampshire chapter is closing in on its 1000th wish! The Hockey Classic has raised almost $250,000 toward those wishes.
