Raiders grab fourth and fifth in conference track meet

FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Academy boys' track team finished fifth in the Division I Western Maine Conference meet, while the Raider girls finished fourth on Saturday.

York led the way in the boys' meet with 184 points. The Raiders finished with 39.

The girls scored 79 points, but a strong Greely group ran away with the meet scoring 152 points.

Silas Eastman finished second in the 1,600 with a 4:28.01 run and fifth in the 800 with a 2:05.22 to lead the boys' team.

Forrest Stearns took third in the 400 with a 53.48 time and he placed sixth in the 200 with a 24.08.

The Raider 4X800 relay team ran an 8:45.77 for third place and the 4X400 relay team finished fourth with a 3:52.21.

To round out the scoring in the track events Kyle Barboza race-walked an 8:53.59 for third place.

In the field events Scott Pelkie took fourth in the shot put with a 40' 5.5" throw. Edward Price hit 40' exactly for sixth place. Price also threw the discus 104'9" for sixth place.

Corinn Bedell and Sage Hennessey led the scoring for the Raider girls. Bedell won the 400 with a meet record time of 57.17.

Hennessey placed second with a 1:01.02 time in the 400.

Bedell and Hennessey also placed second and third, respectively, in the 200. Bedell ran a 27 second time and Hennessey ran a 27.13.

Hennessey also took second in the 100 with a 13.22 time.

Ashanah Tripp placed fifth in the racewalk with a 10:28.67 time.

Hennessey, Bedell, Lauren Pulito and Jamie Gullickson finished the 4X400 relay in 4:17.17 to win the event.

The Raider 4X800 relay team combined for a 10:46.32 time for fourth place and the 4X100 relay ran a 56.57 for fifth place to round out the scoring in the field events.

The Raider girls also had a good showing in the field events. Elizabeth Grzyb threw the javelin 93' feet for a second place finish in the event.

Gullickson cleared 8'6" in the pole vault for a third place finish.

Bailey Friedman placed in three events. Her 32'3.25" shot put toss was good for fourth place.  A 75'2" throw of the discus was earned her a fifth place finish and a 78'7" throw of the javelin gathered a sixth place.

The Raiders will compete in the Regionals this week in preparation for the State Meet the following week.
