The rules have changed

CONWAY — Cranmore Fitness and the Mount Washington Valley Tennis Association have painted 10 and under blended lines on the Cranmore and Davis Park tennis courts this past weekend.Kids around the world have been successfully playing tennis using this type of format for years and for the first time ever the kids tennis rules for 10 and Under play in the US have changed and kids come out the winners. New rules for youth tennis have been passed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) that require all sanctioned 10-and-under tournaments be played using slower-moving and lower-bouncing balls, shorter and lighter racquets, and on smaller courts. Making it smaller is making it bigger and better.
These kids tennis rule changes are significant for children 10 and under, as they will make it easier for more kids to get in the game and, by making tennis more fun from the start, and to stay in the game as well. This summer there will be kids beginner lessons at Cranmore on Monday mornings.
Both Conway Rec. and Bartlett Rec. department will also have 10 and under tennis available in their summer programs so check out their info. There will be advanced 36 foot and 60 foot court lessons at Cranmore on Wednesday afternoons along with organized play days 60 foot court at Davis Park on Tuesdays evenings and 36 foot court at Cranmore on Thursday evenings $5 cost per week.
Conway Rec. Department is also offering beginner adult lessons this summer at Davis Park and an adult open play evening. There will be two free open play days to introduce you to the new courts, Noon on Saturday June 2 at Cranmore and 9 a.m. June 9 at Davis Park. Rackets will be available and parents bring your rackets also. If there are any 11 and 12 year olds that are beginners the 60 foot court is a great way to start so bring them too.
