Arts Jubilee opens 30th summer season Thursday

Arts Jubilee's 30th season on the outdoor stage at Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway begins July 12 with a kick-off concert by of the Freese Brothers Big Band. The program includes Big Band and Swing classics, as well as top tunes of every decade since the Big Bands were the rage in the 1940s.The series of concerts on five Thursday nights in July and August are designed for families and will appeal to everyone from grandparents to grandchildren.
The Freese Brothers Big Band, returning for its third performance for Arts Jubilee, is also celebrating its 30th season. The band has entertained audiences throughout New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont playing familiar favorites by Miller and the Duke, Michael Buble and Bobby Darin, along with Brian Setzer and Norah Jones. Members of the band, under the direction of conductor Mike Adams, volunteer their talent and donate band performance fees to the Freese Brothers Big Band Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships for talented high school musicians to attend summer music camps and return to their school bands with new musical skills.
The Freese Brothers Big Band takes the stage at 7 p.m. Warming up the audience at the 6 p.m. concert will be members of the Mount Washington Valley Community Band, supported by Mountain Top Music Center and under the direction of Russ Gage. Bring your picnic supper or enjoy food and beverages on Zip's Deck and come early to hear the valley's own music makers.
Arts Jubilee's concert series continues with a return of Entrain on July 19, bringing infectious rhythms and upbeat good-time music straight from Martha's Vineyard.
Concerts on five Thursday nights in July and August present a warm-up performance by local musicians at 6 p.m. and the featured concert at 7 p.m. Audiences should bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs. This year's admission continues with no change in price. Each of the five concerts is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors 65 and up. Kids 12 and are free.
In addition to Cranmore's continued support as host sponsor, season and major sponsors of Arts Jubilee including White Mountain Oil & Propane, Coca Cola of Northern New England, Bank of New Hampshire (formerly Laconia Savings Bank,) The Seasons, Ragged Mountain Equipment, Comfort Inn & Suites, Eastern Slope Inn Resort, Golden Gables Inn, Gamwell, Caputo & Siek & Co., Mt. Atlas Fireworks Company has supported Arts Jubilee's symphony concert for 30 years as well. The remaining funds needed to support the concert series are borne by private donations, grants, and the purchase of wrist bands at the gate by concert goers.
