Ossipee Garden Club meeting Sept. 6

OSSIPEE — The Ossipee Garden Club will begin its fall programs Sept. 6 with a talk by Fred Martin, owner of Carriage Hill Honey in Wolfeboro.

Murray may be seen at the local farmers markets and the Tuftonboro Christmas Craft Fair, selling his honey and beeswax products.

He will cover the following topics in his program: a brief history of the honey bee, what beekeepers have used for bee hives, beginner steps for starting a bee hive, challenges that a current beekeeper faces when managing honey bees, plants that are beneficial to honey bees for pollen and nectar, and Apitherapy: the medicinal use of products from the hive, with a focus on honey.

Murray will set up a complete bee hive and bring a sample of his 100 percent beeswax candles, plus pollen that he has started capturing this year. There will also be honey available for tasting.

For an enjoyable afternoon, the public is welcome to join us at the Ossipee Public Library at 1 p.m. on Sept. 6. Light refreshments will be served. For more information call Kathy at 539-5437.
